here we go peeps…vulnerability MAX! I’m sharing the first scratch demo from the new studio space (Lux Productions) in Charlotte, NC.
Check out “Ashes to Ashes”, from the album Journals for Burning, on today’s podcast.
What is a “scratch demo?” A song idea, full lyrics, basic rhythm, piano accompaniment and lead vocals with melody. No edits - no “autotune” or the zillion other fun things done to recordings these days to make “modern music”.
This track barely has a volume balance - vocals and piano levels are not yet matched consistently throughout - and there’s a bit of EQ, compression and reverb thrown on so it’s not totally “dry”, but that’s it.
AND you are the first to hear the song idea - outside of a few live performances where I slipped it in to see audience reaction ;)
What do you think? How’s the tempo (speed) feel? Do you like the vibe? Can you hear the instruments waiting in the wings to bring this little ember to a roaring fire?
Let me know if this is too “raw” - remember we are experimenting in this community and what you want is important.
If you are in, then look forward to Friday’s podcasts / music posts for progress on songs and new work - more songs in the pipeline than bumper stickers on a hippie’s Volkswagon van.
And…lyrics if you are curious:
